HIGHER TRAILS Changing Lives Through Horses

Feeling a bit isolated after retirement? Wish you had a mission? A new purpose? Dealing with sleep interruptions, chills, flash-back memories or just feeling sometimes that you’re “in the hole”? Almost all vets go through this at one time or another. I’m no exception. We’re a “cop family” and know first-hand how the years on the street took its toll. Come on out for a visit.

The Higher Trails Ranch is owned and operated by Ross MacInnes (Reg. #1665) and his wife Dee. It spans both sides of the Three-Point Creek near Millarville. Old-growth forest, open pastures, rolling terrain, diesel tractors, cutting torches, welders and all the toys. Plus running 25-40 horses. There are 5 historical log buildings on site.

The ranch is open to all vets and spouses at no charge.

Several vets come and volunteer to help feed, build or repair stuff. Or just come out for a quiet day of walking along the creek. If you wish, you can talk with folks who truly understand and empathize with your situation.

Dee and I got married in 1968 and our entire married life has been in the force. Me, or one of our vets who volunteer here, are available to visit. Dee can relate to wives who sometimes have difficulty understanding the job. We’re not social workers or psychologists – just an old cop family with a ranch.
