It is with profound sadness that I must share the news that our friend and brother, Donny Speers, passed away unexpectedly on February 19, 2024 in the early morning hours at the age of 78. On February 18th, Don was walking up the stairs in his home with an arm load of items when he lost his balance and fell backwards down the stairs. He sustained a critical head injury and was transported to hospital in Calgary by STARS. He succumbed to his injury a few hours later early in the next morning.
Don attended countless CPVA luncheons and events over the years and was a strong supporter of our association. He was a popular and congenial man who always enjoyed visiting with old friends and introducing himself to new and younger members. I am going to miss sharing a laugh with Donny as I know those who attend our luncheons will also miss him very much.
Don joined the CPS in 1976 after serving in the RCMP. He retired in 2001 and lived in Carstairs Alberta with his loving wife, Mary Ellen.
I spoke to Mary Ellen this afternoon and she is doing as well as can be expected, but of course is still processing what has transpired.
