Passing of George Rocks #1462
December 28, 1947 - May 19, 2022

Calgary, Alberta


 


George Rocks, beloved husband of Sheila, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the age of 74 years. He was born in Greenock, Scotland on December 28, 1947. George immigrated to Canada in 1957, and graduated from the St. Mary's Boys High School in Calgary.

 

George is survived by his loving wife Sheila of 52 years, his two sons, George Christopher Rocks (Renee) of Vernon, B.C., and Andrew Robert Rocks (Danae) of Coaldale, AB, his daughter Julie Anne Rocks of Calgary, AB.; four grandchildren, Andrew Hart-Rocks (Abby), Cole Rocks, Jackson Rocks, and Bowen Rocks. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Cecchetto (Albino) of Surrey, BC, mother in law, Marian Anderson, and an extremely large extended family. George was predeceased by his parents Theresa and George Rocks of Surrey BC, and brother, Jack Maher of USA.

 

Rocks was a well-respected City of Calgary police officer for 35 years. After retiring from the CPS, he continued working 15 years as a private investigator. George loved playing guitar, fly fishing, reading, his piranhas, and playing Flight Simulator. He also enjoyed being a handyman for family and friends and eating seafood dinners with his wife, Sheila.

 

As a member of St. Albert the Great Parish he volunteered for RCIA, Choir, and St. Vincent De Paul. He did local community work, coached children’s sports, and was a parent volunteer at Holy Cross and Christ the King Schools. George accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his family, becoming a Canadian Citizen, and doing his police stings. He will be most remembered for his awesome long stories. He claimed “Why ruin a good story with the facts.”

Funeral Services will be held at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, (10 Prestwick Drive S.E., Calgary), on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed here. Published articles about George can be found on the following links:
