Passing of Kathleen “Kate” Savage #2316
As with all of our fan outs, the following CPVA fan out contains personal material that is intended solely for members of the CPVA and must not be posted on any Social Media site. Thank you.
Sadly, our sister and friend, Kate Savage, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026 at the age of 71 years. You may recall the fan outs sent in 2025 regarding her health that let us know she was suffering from Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. Her daughter, Cassie, received many emails of support at that time from our membership. Cassie read all of those emails to Kate.
Kate joined CPS in 1980 and retired in 2006. She worked in Districts 1, 4 and 6 as a first responder and was well known for her 6 years of service in Crime Stoppers where she regularly appeared on TV in those days. With only about 30 female police officers on the job, Kate was the first policewoman to join the Traffic Section and learned to ride a Harley Davidson. Kate said that Harley training was the longest week of her life, but she rode for 2 years while in Traffic. Before we had an Elder Abuse Unit, Kate was our Seniors Liaison Officer and spoke at over 100 engagements to assist and protect the elderly. Kate also participated in one of the early Calgary Police Rodeos as a Barrel Racer and completed the Calgary Police Half Marathon.
Here is the link for Kate’s obituary that will soon be updated to include her photo as well as more details: https://www.heartlandfuneralservices.com/memorials/kathleen-savage/5716188/
A Celebration of Life is planned in the near future and when details are available I will pass that information on. Kate leaves behind a daughter, Cassie Langevin, her son, Ken Savage and a sister, Dawn Savage.
In the meantime, if you would like to express your condolences or share a story about Kate, please feel free to contact Kate’s daughter, Cassie Langevin directly at:
