Passing of Robert (Bob) Robins #1442
As with all or our CPVA fan outs, they must not be reposted on any Social Media website. This one contains very personal information as well as contact information that is intended for the membership of the CPVA only. The person who is the subject of this fan out worked in areas of the CPS that are considered “sensitive” and he previously let me know prior to his death that he does not want any of this information to be released on Face Book or any other social media outlet. Most of the CPVA Veterans who are on Face Book already receive our fan outs and there is no need to duplicate this information and inform outside persons who choose not to join or are ineligible to join the CPVA. If a public obituary is published then that is fair game, but this fan out is PRIVATE.
Thank you for your understanding.
You will probably recall that last week I sent out a health update about our friend and brother, Bob Robins. Sadly, Bob passed away early this morning, May 22, 2025 while in hospital. His COPD had worsened to the point where it took his life, but not before being contacted and visited by so many of his friends from our Police Family. I am told by his son, Lewis, that this meant the world to him.
Bob was 81 years of age at the time of his death and he lived an amazing life. From his military career with the Lord Strathcona Horse ( Royal Canadians ), to his very distinguished service with the Calgary Police Service. Bob was one of the first TAC members in 1974 and was instrumental in the formation of the Bomb Trailer. In 1977 he was promoted to Detective and served in the Drug Unit, Strike Force, Airport Special Squad, CCIU, CID, Homicide and was a Sergeant in 1-5. This is the resume of a “Cops’ Cop”. Bob served the CPS for 22 years from 1961 to 1991. He was able to buy back time from his 10 year military career to retire at full pension.
Bob was featured in a biography in the 2024 CPVA Summer edition of our newsletter. It was authored by Bill Sturgeon and is an excellent read. Go to our website and sign in. Under “News Letters” have a look (you will need the password to see it, cpva_2020), you will be very impressed.
Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Shirley, with 60 years of marriage. Also left behind is his son, Lewis and two daughters, Allyson and Lisa. A Celebration of Life is being planned and when I know the details I will let you all know. In the meantime, if you would like to extend your condolences, words of support and of course any stories you would like to share, you can do so by emailing Bob’s son Lewis at:
lrobins@shaw.ca
He will ensure Shirley and the rest of Bob’s family will receive your emails.
