Passing or Peter Petraschuk #1192

NOTE

The following CPVA fan out (just like all of our fan outs) must not be reposted or copied in any way onto any other Social Media sites regardless, if you feel that site is secure. It contains personal address information relating to one of our family members and is intended for CPVA members only.

Our friend and Brother, Pete Petraschuk, at the age of 91 passed away on November 20, 2022.  Pete fell and hit his head resulting in a brain bleed that took his life.  I have just learned about his death when Charlie Degagne called me the other day to let me know.

Today I spoke to Pete’s wife, Carole, who said she is grieving Pete’s death, but is trying to carry on the best she can.  They had been married for 49 years. Carole told me that Pete had received the medal commemorating the Silver Jubilee of the Reign of Queen Elizabeth II, 1977.  She said that only 300 medals were awarded in Canada and that the reasons were kept secret.  Pete thought it may have been as a result of the Westbrook Mall shooting in the mid 1970’s.  He was very proud of this prestigious medal.

Pete was the Chief of Police in Forest Lawn until it was annexed into Calgary in 1961.  I met Pete when I was doing my mandatory Public Service time in Communications in 1983 and Pete was a dispatcher.  I was a relief dispatcher and will never forget the coined phase Pete used when dispatching a serious call, “ALL UNITS STAND BY……ALL UNITS STAND BY…. I HAVE 10:__” . Although many copied his style, (myself included), no one ever really got his inflection quite right.

Carole and Pete never used the internet and they only received our newsletters twice a year by Canada Post.  Pete was a member in good standing of the CPVA and Carole will inherit his membership as a Life Member.

If you would like to reach out to Carole, you will have to do it “Old School” and mail a letter or sympathy card to:
