Passing of Kenneth “Ken” Sprouse #1226 As with all of our fan outs, please do not repost on any Social Media Site. It contains personal information intended only for the membership of the CPVA. Thank you. Sadly, I have learned that our friend and brother, Ken Sprouse, passed away at the age of 84 years on November 7 th , 2025. Ken was residing at the Colonel Belcher Care Centre for quite sometime and was battling cancer and dementia. There, he was often visited by our very own Hank Jackson, who also resides there. Vic DeBruyn’s group of CPVA volunteer Peer Support members also visited Ken over the past years. I did not know Ken well, so I reached out to Gord Shaw who told me that he knew Ken. Gord told me that Ken was well liked by his fellow officers and was known to be a very effective investigator, especially in the area of plain clothes work during his time in investigation of organized crime. Gord also said that in those days, Ken didn’t always play by the “Marquis of Queensbury” rules, but he was extremely effective as a damn good Cop. Later in life, Ken became an accomplished artist and his room at the Belcher was full of his paintings. Ken joined the Calgary Police Service in June 1963 as a probationary constable, following his earlier work as an Instrument Technician with the R.C.A.F.. He rose to the rank of Patrol Sergeant in 1970, serving in both the Patrol and Traffic Divisions. In 1973, he was appointed Acting Detective, and in 1974 he was formally promoted to the rank of Detective. He later contributed to specialized units including the Morality Unit (1975) and the Criminal Intelligence Unit (1979). He retired in January 1985 after more than two decades of dedicated service. Ken is survived by three children, Cameron Sprouse, Scott Sprouse and Jody Teris. If you would like to share any stories of their father or extend words of support and condolence, please do so by emailing: cdsprouse@shaw.ca In the event that a service or celebration of life is arranged, I will be sure to pass that information along. Passing of David “Dave” Cheyne #1362 As with all of our fan outs, please do not repost on any Social Media Site. It contains personal information intended only for the membership of the CPVA. Thank you. Sadly, our friend and brother, Dave Cheyne, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025 from complications of several medical issues, primarily Parkinsons disease at the age of 81. Dave, for a long while, attended many Vets luncheons and events accompanied by his loving wife, Donna Cheyne as well as his step-daughter, Robin Danabassis. He attended long after he began to suffer the effects of Parkinsons Disease and faced his challenges with courage and determination. Dave was a popular figure in retirement and in service to the CPS. His kind nature and calming influence is what I remember most. He always called me Michael, a name used primarily by my mother, but somehow it seemed appropriate. Dave joined CPS in 1968. After initially working as a Patrol Officer he was transferred to Traffic in 1969. In 1974 Dave left Traffic and worked in Districts C, D and E until 1980 when he started his CID training. After that, he worked in B-1 and 4-3 until in 1982, he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to District 6 as a District Sergeant. In 1983 he became the 6-6 Zone Sergeant and in 1985 transferred to 6 GIS as a Detective. He transferred to the Auto Theft Unit in 1986 and then moved to Vice in 1989 where he retired in 1991. A Celebration of Life for Dave will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the Cuff n Billy with the program beginning at 14:00 hours. If you would like to extend condolences and words of support to Dave’s wife, Donna and step daughter, Robin, you are welcome to email them at: robinleed@yahoo.com Mike Turcotte turc11@telus.net Like with all CPVA fan out emails please DO NOT just hit the "reply" tab but click on the actual email itself to correspond with said name in any fan out notice.
